12Some Thoughts on Electromagnetic Modeling¶
讲师简介¶

I studied physics at the University of Gottingen and received my PhD in 1991. Afterwards, I worked asa researcher and lecturer at the Geological Survey in Hannover, the Ecole Polytechnique inMontreal/Canada, and again in Hannover at the Leibniz lnstitute for Applied Geophysics before lcompleted my habilitation at the University of Leipzig in 1999. I became a full Professor of AppliedGeophysics at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg in 2000 and was head of the lnstituteof Geophysics and Geoinformatics from 2003 to 2018. My research focus is on geoelectromagneticmethods in the time and frequency domain, particularly on their numerical simulation and inversion. have been working in close cooperation with the nstitute of Numerical Analysis and Optimization ofour university for more than 20 years.
I was dean/vice dean of the Faculty of Geosciences, Geoengineering and Mining from 2013 to 2019, a member of the senate of my university in the years 2015, 2016 and 2019, chairman/designatedchairman of the German Research Council Physics of the Earth from 2013 to 2017, elected member of the Review Board Geophysics and Geodesy of the German Research Foundation DFG from 2012 to 2016, and served for more than a decade for the German Academic Exchange Service. In 2007,I became a trustee of the Gerald W. Hohmann Trust for Teaching and Research in Applied ElectricaGeophysics (USA, now the Hohmann Wannamaker Trust) and have been active in chairing andconvening sessions at lAGA,IUGG, lnternational lnduction Workshops, IAMG and EAGE conferences Together with my group, I have hosted and organized several national and international conferences including the 4th lnternational Symposium on Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics in Freiberg 2007. I was associated editor for Acta Geophysica from 2006 to 2013 and guest editor for GeophysicsJournal of Applied Geophysics, and Earth, Planets and Space. I have been active as a reviewer foralmost all major geophysical journals, several national research foundations and public as well asprivate institutions and facilities. ln 2008/2009, I had the chance to stay as a visiting scientist at theInstitute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, Wellington, New Zealand, and in 2019/2020 at the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. I was elected as a memberof the IAGA Executive Committee from 2019 to 2023.
